DAY ONE-THURSDAY- CONTINUED

I intended to post all of day one at the same time, but got interrupted. Please forgive the choppy posts.

After touring Grand Central, we traveled down 42nd Street to the 83rd Pier, home of the famous Circle Line Tour. This is an exciting, educational, 3 hour tour around Manhattan Island.

Josiah is included in the picture because he also came on this trip. John and Josiah are staying an additional week to help Kelly out some (we hope).

The highlight of our trip was passing the USS Intrepid Aircraft Carrier as they took her back to her berth. She had been in a New Jersey Shipyard for 2 years getting a complete "make-over", and was returning to Pier 86 where she is a museum.

This is the ship that Ben Gates jumps from in National Treasure.

In 1943, Intrepid was commissioned and served proudly in World War II. She went on to serve as one of the primary recovery vessels for NASA, three tours of duty off Vietnam, and submarine surveillance in the North Atlantic during the Cold War. Today she continues her service as a premiere educational center and a monument to all who have served our nation in uniform.

It was really a goose-bump and tears in my eyes moment to get to sail so close to her. The men at the back are former crew members, who were asked to sail on board for her last voyage. John McCain also served on Intrepid

We were too close and our lens too large to get the entire ship. I especially liked this photo with the tall buildings in the background.
